I'm Engaged!

Well, it's finally happened. I was able to find the woman of my dreams and I get to spend the rest of forever with her!

So I figured that with the mass amount of people that would like to know how it all happened…..

We got engaged December 18th but let’s start this story a little before Thanksgiving....

To make a really long story a little shorter we talked about getting married. We went ring shopping and the first time that we went she found about a dozen rings she loved, which didn't help me in deciding which one she really liked. Though, you should have seen the smile on her face.

A week later we went again and this time she pointed out 3 that she really liked. I was taking mental notes of what type of features that she wanted the entire time.

I told her that I wanted to buy the ring in cash and that I would not have the funds to do so until mid January. I could tell that she really wanted it but this "excuse" helped her understand why I wanted to wait for so long.

I paid for the ring in cash on December 8th and had to play dumb ever since then. I wanted it to be a complete surprise.

Last week she started talking about how there are plenty of rings that are still cute but a lot cheaper….little did she know of what was going on behind the scenes. I said, "No Honey, I want you to get the ring that you want." I could tell that her finger was getting lonely.

Well, now that I have that preface let me get to the really fun part. Back to December 18th!

At 7:00am I dropped a long stemmed fire dipped rose on her apartment door step (which is nothing uncommon of me to do). I sent her a text and said, "Good morning baby! Happy 7:00, you should check your front door ;)"

By the time she checked, which was shortly after the text, I had already left.

Now, my old roommate Josh works with Kortney and he helped me out with the next part. He let me in her office building so I could place another rose on her desk so that she would get it at 8:00.

She got into work and was surprised! A rose!

To sum up the rest of the morning and afternoon she received a rose every hour at 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00......all the way to 4:00.

I conspired with her roommate to place another rose on her bed so that when she returned home at 5:00 she’d see it.

I had asked her on a date on Monday night for Thursday and told her that I would pick her up at 6:00. I brought the last rose then which makes the final total of a dozen.

We went to a delicious Restaurant called Gloria's Little Italy (corner of University Ave and Center St. Provo). It is one of her favorite places to eat and is where we celebrated our 1 month anniversary (cheesy, I know, but I’m a helpless romantic).

After that amazing meal we drove to the Salem Pond Christmas Lights. They happen every year and the even have floats on the small lake with lit up Christmas tress. It was very pretty, especially after all the snow which we received.

We drove around the pond slowly looking at the lights and then parked. There was a paved trail around the edge of the lake which we followed trying to take pictures every now and then.

There is on spot on the trail with an antique park bench overlooking the lake and the sidewalk bridge decorated in lights. We sat down and I knew I had to do something fast since it was getting colder much faster than I had hoped for.

Sitting there I said, "There is something that I want to tell you."

"What?" was her reply

I lowered myself to one knee and reached in my pocket (now, at my company party a week either she decided that it would be funny if she picked a Ring Pop as a joke and we did tease each other about it.) Before I pulled it out of my pocket I said, "I know it’s nothing much but...." I grabbed the Ring Pop and she got this look of "Chad, you are ridiculous" on her face.

I asked to put it on so she took off her glove and I slid it on her finger. I waited a few seconds and said, "Hmmm, that one doesn't look quite right."

I reached into my other pocket and grabbed the real ring. Once she saw the box she was completely speechless. She didn’t even see it coming.

I opened it up and looking at her I asked, "Kortney, I want to be yours forever. Will you marry me?"

She was smiling quite a bit by this time and replied with "yes!"

I don’t think that I have ever seen a Ring Pop come off a finger so fast!

I placed the real ring on her finger and gave her a kiss.

The rest of the night was full of phone calls and text messages.

She kept looking at the ring a lot and smiling.
